About May McNally

All my life I have been intrigued by handcrafted items. I am truly amazed at the process of taking various materials and creating something so beautiful — each piece being unique in its own way.

May McNally, Silversmith and Jewelry Artist for May McNally JewelryAll of my jewelry is made of fine sterling silver. I enhance each piece with various techniques like handstamping, wire wrapping, stones setting or use of other materials. I use both precious and semi-precious gemstones, yet tend to be drawn to the beauty of natural stones. Using natural stones like Jasper, Agate and Quartz allows me to create many unique pieces, as no two stones are alike.

My inspiration is drawn primarily from tribal (Indian) or Southwestern influences. I pride my work on its uniqueness and the special feeling you get when you wear it. My designs are not limited to the current inventory and are constantly changing due to their one-of-a-kind style. Custom orders are welcome and available for your particular needs.

May's Bio

Working with my hands has always been a hobby of mine. As a teenager I learned various crafts from knitting and refinishing furniture to making beaded jewelry. My love for handcrafted items was further inspired by my grandmother's treasures she collected during her world travels.

Originally from North Carolina, I graduated from High Point University with a BS in Home Furnishing Marketing and Business Economics and a minor in Art. While in college, I continued to create jewelry with my friends using various beads and galvanized tin. I worked for Surge Inc., a wholesale jewelry manufacturer creating the latest in 80s and 90s jewelry fashion designs.

After college I worked in furniture design and sales, but needed to follow my desire to experience more. I moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, to pursue my love of Southwestern style. I fell in love with hand-stamped and turquoise jewelry.

I am primarily inspired by tribal (Indian) and Southwestern influencesThe Native American art of jewelry-making is fascinating. I was extremely fortunate to meet and work with many talented jewelers. By studying directly with them, I learned various techniques for fabrication of sterling silver jewelry.  While mastering silversmithing, I worked in one of the most unusual and popular Santa Fe boutiques featuring worldly treasures, which sparked my great appreciation of tribal jewelry started. Many of my own jewelry creations reflect the influence of my time spent in Santa Fe.

After returning from Santa Fe, I opened a small boutique in North Carolina where I created and sold my jewelry, as well as other artisans' artwork. After 4 years, I decided retail was not for me and returned to the furniture business where I traveled as a manufacturer's representative. It was then that I met my husband, and together we moved to bucolic Chester Springs, Pennsylvania.

I reside with my husband, two children and three furry friends. Being a stay-at-home mom allowed me to focus on my children, but I soon missed using my creativity. As they continue to grow, I've unpacked my torch, set-up a studio and let my creative juices flow.
